Full-time or part-time? How to choose

Same curriculum, same projects, very different weeks. Four questions that decide which format will actually get you to demo day.

Both of our bootcamps teach the same twelve units, build the same six projects and end with the same demo day. What changes is the shape of your week: full-time packs each unit into a week, part-time gives it a fortnight. Here is how we help people choose on the first call.

Can you stop earning for three months?

This is the honest first question. Full-time is about forty hours a week, and most students find a part-time job on top of it hard to sustain. If you have savings, a partner’s income or a redundancy payment to bridge twelve weeks plus a job search, full-time gets you there faster. If you do not, part-time exists for exactly that reason.

How do you learn best?

Full-time students spend most of their week in the room, pairing with someone on the same problem. Questions get answered in minutes. Part-time students do about half of their hours alone, between sessions. If you have taught yourself something before and finished it, that is a good sign you will manage the self-study.

What does your calendar look like for six months?

Part-time asks for Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings for twenty-four weeks, plus self-study. Look at the next six months honestly: weddings, a house move, a new baby, exam season if you are a teacher. Recorded sessions cover the odd missed evening, not a missing month.

When do you want to start the new job?

Use the curriculum explorer to pick a start date and see your graduation date. Our median graduate signs an offer about thirteen weeks after demo day, so add three months to that date and you have a realistic first payday.

Still not sure?

Take Code Foundations, four Wednesday evenings. It counts as your prep pack, the fee comes off the bootcamp if you join, and by week three you will know how you work.

Quick answers

Can I switch format after I start?
Yes, free, in the first two weeks. After that you can move to the next cohort of the other format at the same unit.
Is part-time easier?
No. It is the same work over twice the time, with less of it in the room. Many people find it harder to keep momentum.
